Book I: Self
The first book is organized into four parts. Uncover tips tools & practices at your finger tips within each part.
Part I: Standing Strong - Cultivating Enduring Resilence Amid Chaotic Environments
In the first part of this book, we encounter leader tools for sustaining and generating our capacity to endure hardship, navigate challenges, and cultivate energy. It takes energy to connect with people and build high-trust relationships. It takes energy to connect with ideas and make sound and timely decisions. It takes energy to maintain a fiery resolve to keep moving forward in the face of adversity. And, it takes energy to grow into opportunities that are currently bigger than ourselves.
Part II: Developing Understanding & Embracing My Self-Concept as a Leader
This part integrates insights and structured reflections for exploring, understanding, and embracing our identity as leaders. The more effectively we can answer such questions as—Who am I? What is my life purpose? — the more intentionally we can live in attunement with the deeper essence of who we each are. And, in so doing, the more ably we can make the impact we were created for.
Part III: Self Awareness & Management
Our presence as leaders matters more than anything we say. This presence is dependent upon our ability to see ourselves in context and to act with intention. When individuals and teams slip into a reactive fight or flight mode, we start to lose our ability to think creatively, see the long-term implications of actions taken in the moment, collaborate in relationship with others, and express empathy. If we can maintain a connected and non-reactive presence regardless of what is swirling around and within us—we will enable our teams to thoughtfully create a pathway through whatever complexity we find ourselves in. In this sense, calm is a super-power. These chapters will equip us with leader tools for developing and sustaining greater self-awareness and a connected, calming, and non-reactive presence.
Part IV: Lifelong Learning - Maintaining Relevance and Increasing Capacity
Without continuous growth and development, it is possible for us to find ourselves lacking relevance in a dynamic environment. Thus, there is a demand for persistent practices that support self-understanding and adaptation. Based on an assumption that the primary driver for leader growth is experience, this part unpacks mechanisms that intentionally leverage experience for development over time. We will leave our interaction with this chapter enriched with a deeper understanding for the impact of our life experiences, and a desire to intentionally seek out new and challenging experiences that will stimulate growth. As we will find, experience alone is not enough. Without preparation, reflection, feedback, and supportive community it is possible to have an experience and miss the meaning, or quite possibly to learn the wrong lessons.
